In 2014 Kingston Conservatives made a pledge to residents to Improve Kingston’s Care services, and we have delivered on that.
When we were out on the doorsteps in 2014 talking to residents, a major concern was that the Borough’s care services weren’t good enough. Concerns had been raised about the standards of care and the previous administration had failed to get a grip on the situation and improve the Borough's care services.
Knowing that this had to improve, we set about working with Kingston Hospital and local healthcare providers to improve the standards of care.
We have delivered on our pledge to improve care services
We implemented a system called Kingston Coordinated Care which joined up Kingston’s Health providers to ensure that patients records were easily accessible allowing for a more efficient and streamlined approach to caring for residents. Through this new system we have also worked hard to keep elderly residents in their homes wherever possible when receiving care, but where residents had to go to hospital their records were easily available and they received a better standard of care.
We've also worked hard to roll out Integrated Community teams that work with colleagues in the NHS to identify patients who are at highest risk of hospital admission, and also to facilitate discharge back home. Through the changes implemented in this and other initiatives, we have seen Kingston rise to be the 3rd highest rate in London for discharging residents from hospital, preventing bed blocking.
Since 2014 Kingston Conservatives have also delivered improvements to our local health service. Former Conservative MP, James Berry, was successful in securing an investment of just under £1 million into the A&E department at Kingston Hospital. Working with local GPs and Healthcare providers we've also helped to deliver a 7 day a week, evening and weekend GP service at Merritt Health Centre in Chessington, Surbiton Health Centre and Kingston Health Centre.
As Conservatives we care deeply about our local care services and that is why we’ve continually improvedthe level of care being administered. We pledged in 2014 to improve our care services and we have delivered, now its about continuing with these improvements and ensuring that we continue to have excellent care services.
Cllr Cathy Roberts, Portfolio Holder for Adults Social Care & Health said
’m proud of our record of delivering better care services for all Kingstonians from supporting elderly and vulnerable residents to securing investment into our main hospital. It is important however that we continue to keep on improving our care services, ensuring that they are the best that they can be and that should you need to ever call on them that you receive a high standard of care."
