Richmond and Twickenham Conservative Councillors are supporting the additional funding for free school meals during holiday times by Richmond Council.
Cllr Pamela Fleming, Joint Deputy Leader of Richmond Borough's Conservatives, said "We know the struggle that so many families are having as the result of the Covid crisis.
"The Government has provided an enormous amount of support to families, businesses, and councils. We know they face difficult financial choices as this crisis continues. Ultimately, this support will have to be paid for, and a huge burden will yet again fall on the futures of our young people. So these difficult choices should not just be glossed over.
"However with people losing their jobs or on furlough more children are entitled to free school meals and many Councils of all political persuasions have stepped in to ensure our young people have access to healthy food during the holidays.
"Although we cannot expect the Government to do everything and it is right that local Councils play an active role in Covid support, I am encouraged by reports that the Government is looking to allocate funding for the Christmas holidays and clearly the question of holiday provision for those entitled to free school meals is something that needs to be reviewed.
"Richmond is a great community and as well as the Council it is heartening to see so many businesses and local organisations also offering support."
