Dear Resident,
Recently we have seen a new President elected in France.
Emmanuel Macron won with a very large majority. As a result, he can claim a strong negotiating position on Brexit.
As we enter EU negotiations, it is vital that we too have a leader with a strong mandate, so Britain can be in the best possible position.
The only person that can be is Theresa May.
But without a proper majority, she will have zero room for manoeuvre. A small minority - including in her own Party - could make negotiation impossible.
Tim Farron and the Lib Dems have threatened to try and bring government business to a standstill. This is neither realistic, nor would it help any of us.
Trying to scupper negotiations and weaken Britain's hand will only prevent us from getting the best deal for everyone.
It we now know that the LibDems have been making backroom deals with Labour. While they have publicly claimed they wouldn't go into coalition with Labour, they have been privately urging their supporters to vote for Labour in some seats to help Jeremy Corbyn.
Now more than ever, we need stable leadership, working in the national interest.
For my part, I have proven myself as a moderating influence on this issue. In fact my last vote as your MP was to vote with the opposition to secure the rights of EU nationals living in the UK.
So I'm standing in this critical election to help Theresa May achieve a working majority, to deliver a green, sustainable Brexit where the environment benefits, and to secure proper reassurances for EU citizens living and working in the UK.
I hope you'll be able to back me on June 8th so I can make sure we get a Brexit that this community can welcome.
Best wishes,
Zac Goldsmith
