In response to discussions with local business and residents, Zac Goldsmith is undertaking a constituency wide survey of shoppers and local high street users’ local priorities. Zac will be gathering his constituents’ views in the run up to small business Saturday, on the 1st of December 2018.
The local high street has been a priority in the run-up to the Autumn Budget and the Chancellor has announced a raft of measures to support high street businesses and local employers. Zac will be consulting his constituents to ensure their views are accurately represented to both the local Council and the Government, so that he can champion further measures designed to protect small businesses and the unique character of Richmond and North Kingston’s high streets.
Regarding the upcoming survey, Zac said:
“Our distinctive high streets are part of what makes our area so special, but they are facing real pressures and they need our support. Alongside local Conservative Councillors, I successfully campaigned for free 30 minutes parking to help our local shops and I am determined to champion our high streets. I would like your support with this. Please spare a couple of minutes to complete my high street users survey and share your thoughts and ideas on how we can help our high streets to thrive.”
Cllr Paul Hodgins, Conservative Councillor for Barnes Ward and Leader of the Conservative Group on Richmond Council said:
"Our high streets provide distinctive character and a crucial focal point for our local villages. That is why we, together with Zac, have made supporting them such a high priority. However, the nature of shopping is changing, and we have to be realistic about current trends to help them thrive. So it is important to find out what residents want from their high streets. Please help by filling out Zac’s survey."
Cllr Pamela Fleming, Conservative Councillor for South Richmond Ward and Conservative Lead on Arts, Culture, Sport, and the Visitor Economy said:
“High streets and shopping areas are the heart of the community and one of the highest priorities for our residents. We are fortunate in having such a wide range of shops and innovative retailers, but if we want them to be successful we have to support them.”
