Zac Goldsmith MP was honoured to cut the ribbon at the new weather station at St Richards CE school in Ham.
The weather station has been funded by grants from the British Science Association and from Tesco's Bags of Help and importantly, students, parents, teachers and the community raised £1000 for the project. The Council also provided some funding.
Together with representatives from Richmond Council, the Met police, and Sustrans, Zac checked the quality of the air at the school and was pleased to raise the green flag to show good air quality. Nicole Tahir who is a year 6 Junior Travel Ambassador (photo) will be one of the team who take the reading each morning of the air quality monitor and raise the appropriate flag which will hopefully remain green.
Commenting, Zac said: “It’s fantastic that so many organisations have worked with local parents to raise money for this weather station. I hope this project helps local pupils to monitor the local climate and gives them the skills and interest to study the changes to the environment further.”
